Support Local 2025 - Our Top Picks!
If you’ve been a reader of our bulletin or a follower of our social media for a while, you’ll know that alongside selling properties and getting the best results for our clients, one of our missions at Anji Foster Property is to spread the love and appreciation for our little city. This mission has always been at the core of what we do and now more than ever, Wellington needs all the love it can get.
Along with supporting organizations like The Wellington City Mission, we have prioritized getting out into the community and lifting up local businesses by highlighting them over on our social media and our weekly bulletin. Each week we visit a new local spot, whether that’s a cafe, restaurant, store or exhibition and the feedback we’ve received from the community and the businesses themselves has been pure positivity and love!
So, to celebrate another successful year of Supporting Local, we wanted to highlight some of our favourite spots that we’ve had the pleasure of visiting in 2025. If you’re searching for a new go-to coffee spot, cafe, restaurant or store, look no further…
The Best Coffee…
Tipple In The Nook - 93 The Terrace, Wellington Central
Sometimes the best spots are discovered purely by accident, and this was the case with Tipple In The Nook. On the hunt for a coffee before filming a social video on The Terrace, we stumbled across this inner-city coffee and wine bar.
Not only do they deserve an award for best cafe name ever (Tipple In The Nook has made its way into our family’s vocabulary!) but the coffee and matcha was just perfect. The staff are so lovely and clearly passionate about their craft, even offering to create a caffeinated beverage for us based on our specific flavour preferences.
The Best Dinner…
Koji - 12 Majoribanks Street, Mt Victoria
We couldn’t make this list without mentioning the wonderful Koji. Neighbours with some of the best restaurants in the city on Makoribanks Street, Koji offers a unique Asian inspired menu and when I tell you every single thing on their menu is delicious, I mean it. But the Kingfish Sashimi and Udon Noodles with Wagyu and Black Pepper Butter were out of this world.
The Best Brunch…
The Boat Cafe - 139A Oriental Parade, Oriental Bay
The Boat Cafe is a Wellington staple and the location alone makes this quirky spot well worth visiting, but they also serve up some of the best and most affordable brunch we’ve come across. Their menu is extensive and the counter food equally as tempting, but if you’re after some classic eggs on toast and a good coffee, it doesn’t get much better than The Boat Cafe.
We loved this spot so much that we’ve become regular visitors!
The Best Store…
Backhouse Interiors Limited - 9 Allen Street, Te Aro
All the way back in January of this year we popped into Backhouse Interiors to see their new and improved space and we were blown away. The selection of interior related goodies, furniture and lighting at Backhouse would have any interior design lover feeling inspired and immediately adding pieces to their wishlist.
Whether you’re on the hunt for a Christmas present for yourself this December or simply searching for some interior decorating inspo, Backhouse Interiors is the perfect spot for a weekend browse.
The Best Interior Fit-Out…
Parla - 216 The Parade, Island Bay
When we popped in to check out the new kids on the block in Island Bay, Parla, we weren’t just impressed with their Middle Eastern inspired menu and tasty coffees, the interior design at Parla is on another level.
The colour palette, furniture choices and unique artwork give this restaurant a truly one of a kind feel and we found ourselves admiring every single element of the space, every detail has been considered and it definitely pays off. We especially loved the gorgeous stools lining the bar…
Anji’s Bonus Shoutout…
Hummingbird Restaurant & Lounge - 22 Courtenay Place, Te Aro
Hummingbird has always been one of Jason and my favourite bars to visit for an after work drink and since their recent remodel, it’s even more tempting! They not only have some delicious cocktails and drops to choose from, but their revamped dinner menu offers some of the tastiest food on this side of town.
I also love the interior fit-out at Hummingbird, the lighting choices, bold wallpaper and seating create the perfect moody vibe for an evening drink or date night.
James’ Bonus Shoutout…
Customs - 39 Ghuznee Street, Te Aro
After visiting Customs for the first time this year it’s easily become my favourite spot for a coffee and bite to eat in Wellington. Customs is a beloved local eatery in our city and for good reason, their freshly baked treats, delicious coffee and gourmet toast menu make this spot a true crowd pleaser.
However, I’ve returned several times with one goal in mind, grabbing one of their very popular and incredibly tasty almond croissants. They are the best sweet treat you’ll come across in Welly, just writing about them has my mouth watering!
