Property Dreaming

Thank goodness Jas is as keen on spending hours being inspired by housie programmes on YouTube as myself, otherwise it could be awkward! But given we both enjoy this pastime, we have over the years gathered a few favourites. I thought I would share our top five go to channels for some quality property dreaming.

01 - The Local Project

Love, love, love this channel. Being Australasian focused, the style of properties on this channel are more relatable than some UK or US shows, where our difference in aesthetic can be quite significant.

The properties highlighted on The Local Project are in my view often the best of the best in Aotearoa and Australia and I have gleaned more than a few ideas and dreams from watching their beautifully curated content.

We have watched and even re watched many videos on this channel, but one video in particular that we have returned to an embarrassing number of times is a stunning home by Cheshire Architects on Waiheke Island. If you’d like to check it out:

02 - HOME Magazine NZ

Videos on this channel are always very bingeable.

Again, being focused on our local NZ aesthetic means that many of the properties are always inspiring. The locations that the properties are in can sometimes also have a special connection to another chapter in our lives, a place we’ve lived, a place we’ve visited, which makes them even more engaging.

An extension of the physical magazine, the HOME videos are often further profiling homes that are celebrated in the magazine. As an avid reader of HOME Magazine as well, it’s a treat to have a more dynamic tour of a home than just still images.

03 - Open Space

This channel is based in the US and focusses on older homes with architectural merit. These are often homes from one of my favourite property eras, the mid century. As we have a real shortage of these types of homes here in Wellington, I love to dive deep into any channel that celebrates the retro mid century era, and Open Space is my top pick for consistent crave worthy content.

This is another channel that we return to re view some homes that really caught our imagination, but there are so many videos on this channel, it will take you awhile to get through them. No better time to start!

04 - ArchiPro

Back to NZ and this is one inspiring channel. Linked to their website which helps people connect with architects, designers and suppliers, creating content is the obvious way to share their story in a way that can be easily found and consumed.

If you have not checked out their website and are planning any work around your home, small or large, it is an incredibly extensive and diverse source of information and if you feel like seeing what amazing things can be created at the end of a project then jump on:

05 - Est Living

Calling themselves a “global design resource featuring the best in architecture, interiors and products…” Est Living live up to their claim consistently. There is a more global feel to their content when compared to my fave channels closer to home, but the properties they select are always remarkable and it’s easy to get lost in their fantastic back catalogue.
